IPoA Review Co-Facilitators Release Draft Declaration for Endorsement [viewed]

Midterm Review of the Istanbul Programme of Action20 May 2016: A draft political declaration has been released for endorsement during the midterm review of the implementation of the Istanbul Programme of Action (IPoA) for the Least Developed Countries (LDCs). The text was negotiated by UN Member States in informal meetings led by the co-facilitators of the intergovernmental consultations on the preparatory process, Benedicte Frankinet, Permanent Representative of Belgium and Jean-Francis Regis Zinsou, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Benin, and agreed ad referendum. The declaration is under "silent procedure" until 24 May 2016, at 12 pm EST.

UNEA-2 Begins Discussion of Critical Environmental Challenges [viewed]

UNEA-223 May 2016: The second UN Environment Assembly (UNEA-2) of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) opened on 23 May 2016 in Nairobi, Kenya, to address the overarching theme of 'Delivering on the environmental dimension of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.' The UNEA-2 outcome will include a global call to action to address critical environmental challenges, which will be conveyed to the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) set to meet in July 2016 in New York, US.

Each group of ministers agreed on a Communiqué or Declaration for the consideration of G7 leaders from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, UK, and the US at the G7 Ise-Shima Summit, which will take place from 26-27 May 2016, in Ise-Shima, Japan.

Anti-Corruption Summit Agrees on Actions to Drive Out Corruption and Achieve SDG 16 [viewed]

anti_corruption_summit12 May 2016: World leaders and representatives from business and civil society agreed on a package of practical steps to expose and drive out corruption at the ‘Anti-Corruption Summit: London 2016.' The Summit aimed to step up global action to tackle corruption across all walks of life, as part of efforts to end poverty, promote prosperity and defeat terrorism and extremism, in line with commitments under the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. In the lead up to the conference, over 60 countries met at the Foreign Office in London and agreed to form the Countering Conservation-related Corruption (3C) network, focused on ending the corruption behind wildlife crime.

UN Compiles Second Draft of Views On Indigenous Peoples' Participation in UN Processes [viewed]

un_fpii16 May 2016: The advisers of the consultation process with UN Member States and indigenous peoples on ways to enable the participation of indigenous peoples' representatives and institutions in meetings of relevant UN bodies on issues affecting them have released a second draft compilation, as part of an intergovernmental process on enabling indigenous peoples' participation at the UN. The second draft provides a general overview of responses and proposals on the way forward and includes a discussion paper that summarizes the views with significant support and highlights some points of difference.

Event: Launch of GEO-6 Regional Assessments [viewed]

Described as “the most authoritative study that UNEP has ever published on the state of the global environment,” the sixth Global Environment Outlook (GEO-6) of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) includes six regional reports that assess environmental issues in the Pan-European region, North America, Asia and the Pacific, West Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, and Africa. The regional reports will be launched during the first-ever High-level Global Science-Policy Forum hosted by UNEP, that takes place ahead of the second UN Environment Assembly (UNEA-2) and will feed into the decision-making process of the Assembly.

Colombia Discusses Indicators, Data for National SDGs Roadmap [viewed]
