6 October 2011: Directors and high-level officials of the forests services of South American countries have agreed on the need for common and regional approaches to the challenges facing the continent's forests, in particular climate change.
The Mountain Partnership Secretariat is organizing three regional meetings in Chile, Tajikistan and Uganda with support of the World Bank Development Grant Facility. This meeting is organized in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
21 October 2011: Delegates at the tenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD COP 10), which convened from 10-21 October 2011, in Changwon City, Republic of Korea, adopted 40 decisions, including on addressing the governance of the Convention's Global Mechanism (GM), scientific advice, and performance and impact indicators.
18 October 2011: The fourth meeting of the Transitional Committee (TC 4) for the design of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) aimed to conclude discussions for the design of the GCF ahead of the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 17) to the UNFCCC, scheduled to take place in Durban, South Africa, at the end of 2011.
17 October 2011: International organizations participated in events across the world marking World Food Day on 17 October 2011 under the theme: “Food prices – from crisis to stability.”
15 October 2011: The Group of 20 (G20) issued a Communiqué of Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors highlighting their support for the effective design of the Green Climate Fund as part of the Durban outcome.
30 September 2011: The Seventh Council Meeting of the Inter-American Biodiversity Information Network (IABIN) met to review IABIN's accomplishments to date, and develop a vision statement and work plan for the next phase of the project.
The UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) is organizing this workshop as part of its 2011 Negotiation Training Series. It is designed to equip delegates, particularly those from developing countries, least developed countries (LDCs) and small island developing States (SIDS), with the skills and knowledge they need to perform efficiently in environmental sustainability and climate change-related negotiations at the UN General Assembly (UNGA), the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), the Commission for Sustainable Development (CSD), negotiation processes under the UNFCCC, and other fora.
This meeting will include the meetings of: the Forest Investment Program (FIP) Sub-Committee; the Scaling Up Renewable Energy Programme (SPREP) Sub-Committee; the Pilot Programme for Climate Resilience (PPCR) Sub-Committee; the Strategic Climate Fund (SCF) Trust Fund Committee; and the Clean Technology Fund (CTF) Trust Fund Committee.
The Global Environment Facility (GEF) Council is the main governing body of the GEF. It functions as an independent board of directors, with primary responsibility for developing, adopting, and evaluating GEF programmes. Council members representing 32 constituencies (16 from developing countries, 14 from developed countries, and two from countries with transitional economies) meet for three days, twice each year.
