Event: 2014 World Conference on Indigenous Peoples [viewed]
The UN General Assembly approved a resolution to organize a high-level plenary meeting in 2014 (the World Conference on Indigenous Peoples in 2014) to share perspectives and best practices on the realization of indigenous peoples' rights, including to pursue the objectives of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. The World Conference on Indigenous Peoples 2014 will be organized as a high-level plenary meeting of the 69th session of the UN General Assembly and supported by the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, to share perspectives and best practices on the realization of the rights of indigenous peoples and to pursue the objectives of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
12 August 2011: During the first regional meeting of the en.lighten initiative, conducted for Latin American and Caribbean countries, delegates adopted the Santo Domingo Declaration, which encourages the phasing out of general service incandescent lamps and the transition to more efficient lighting products.
10 August 2011: The Adaptation Fund Board (AFB) has released the report from its 14th meeting, during which the Board invited civil society to engage in a dialogue with the AFB in Durban, South Africa, at the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 17) to the UNFCCC, as well as discussions with institutions supporting the accreditation process of National Implementing Entities (NIE).
9 August 2011: The Global Environment Facility (GEF) held a meeting with nine indigenous peoples' representatives to discuss a future GEF Policy for strengthening its partnership with indigenous peoples.
8 August 2011: A seminar organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile and the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) examined the role of the UN in global governance and heard several calls for the organization to reform to meet the economic and political challenges of the 21st century.
