The Department of Democratic Sustainability and Special Missions of the Organization of American States (OAS) Secretariat will convene a Meeting of Government Experts on the Management of Socio-Environmental Conflict for the Central American and the Andean Regions to reflect, analyze and debate the dynamics of "socio-environmental" conflict in participating member States and possible frameworks for managing such conflicts. The meeting will specific look at citizen participation in public policy formation, prior consultations, early warning systems and dialogue as a tool for socio-environmental conflict management.

The Network for the Advancement of Justice, Governance and Law for Environmental Sustainability, supported by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), Organization of American States (OAS), and World Congress on Justice, Governance and Law for Environmental Sustainability, will hold the first session of the new International Advisory Council under the theme "Collaboration and Synergies in the Implementation of the Rio+20 Declaration on Justice, Governance and Law for Environmental Sustainability". The meeting will feature two discussion panels, one on the advancement of key principles on justice, governance and law for environmental sustainability addressing such issues as public participation and enabling conditions, and the other discussing stakeholders' roles in supporting institutional frameworks from the national to the global level. Panel members will include judges from Argentina, Brazil, Kenya, Malaysia and the Caribbean Court of Justice.
