14 June 2013: A workshop organized by the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) brought together some 100 experts from throughout Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) to discuss how the region might benefit from the experience and lessons learned in transboundary water cooperation from the Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes (Water Convention).

June 2013: The UN Regional Commissions released a joint publication, titled 'A Regional Perspective on the Post-2015 United Nations Development Agenda.' The report identifies priority areas for a global development agenda, assesses the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), discusses regional specificities and recommends adapting global goals to regional and national goals.

18 April 2013: The 14 signatory countries to the Declaration on the Application of Principle 10 of the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development, on access to information, justice and public participation, approved a 2014 action plan to conclude a regional agreement on applying Principle 10 in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC).

22 April 2013: A report published jointly by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) estimates that Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) will require US$17-27 billion to adapt to the unavoidable physical impacts of climate change projected for the region, and about US$100 billion annually in mitigation investments to meet the global climate stabilization goal.

19 April 2013: The Government of Mexico hosted a regional consultation with civil society representatives on the post-2015 development agenda. "Realizing the Future We Want in Latin America and the Caribbean: Towards a Post-2015 Development Agenda" brought together stakeholders from the Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) region to critically engage with the negotiation process and interact with members of the UN High-level Panel on Post-2015 Development Agenda (HLP).

The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) is organizing the Second Meeting of the Signatory Countries of the Declaration on the application of Principle 10 of the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development in Latin America and the Caribbean, which will convene in Guadalajara, Mexico, from 16-17 April 2013. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss and adopt the Plan of Action to 2014 for the formulation of an instrument on the application of Principle 10 in Latin America and the Caribbean, on the basis of the draft proposed by the Presiding Officers. The Government of Mexico, with the support of ECLAC, also is organizing a regional civil society consultation, titled “The Region We Want: Latin America and the Caribbean Regional Consultation on the Post-2015 Development Agenda,” from 17-19 April 2013.

The ICPD regional meeting for the UNECLAC region is expected to take place in Montevideo, Uruguay, from 12-14 August 2013. The conference will identify priorities for the future to prepare for the ICPD beyond 2014 agenda, focusing on ageing and international migration.

11 March 2013: Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) countries convened for the "Conference on Sustainable Development in LAC: Follow-up to the development agenda beyond 2015 and Rio+20," from 7-9 March 2013, in Bogota, Colombia. Participants discussed development goals, global and regional governance, the implications from a regional perspective of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20), and the follow-up to the development agenda beyond 2015, with the aim of informing ongoing global processes.

11 March 2013: The Caribbean Forum on "Shaping a sustainable development agenda to address the Caribbean reality in the 21st century" took place in Bogota, Colombia, on 5-6 March 2013, and concluded with participants adopting conclusions on priority areas as well as guidelines on how to continue working toward development in the Caribbean.
