DSD Provides Webpage on SDGs Working Group [viewed]

January 2013: The UN Division for Sustainable Development (DSD) has launched a section of its Sustainable Development Knowledge Platform on the Open Working Group (OWG) on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The page on the OWG - the establishment of which was recently agreed in the UN General Assembly (UNGA) - is part of a broader section on the SDGs and related resources.

Event: Third International Conference for Small Island Developing States [viewed]

The Third International Conference for Small Island Developing States (SIDS) is scheduled to convene from 1-4 September 2014, in Samoa. This conference will include a high-level segment to build upon the Barbados Programme of Action (BPOA) and the Mauritius Strategy for Implementation (MSI), and will identify new challenges for the sustainable development of SIDS. According to UN General Assembly resolution A/67/L.66, "The General Assembly, recalling its resolution 67/207 of 21 December 2012, in which it welcomed the offer of the Government of the Independent State of Samoa to host the third International Conference on Small Island Developing States in 2014, decides that the third International Conference on Small Island Developing States shall be held from 1 to 4 September 2014 in Apia, to be preceded by activities related to the Conference from 28 to 30 August 2014, also in Apia".

DSD Report Examines Climate Change Adaptation in Grenada [viewed]

September 2012: The UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) Division for Sustainable Development (DSD) has released a report examining adaptation to climate change in sectors including water resources, coastal ecosystems and renewable energy. While this report focuses on Grenada, the broader project, “Integrating Climate Change into National Sustainable Development Strategies in Latin America and the Caribbean,” addresses primary concerns of small island developing States (SIDS).

DESA Releases Road Map to Green Economy in Carriacou, Petite Martinique [viewed]

29 June 2012: The Division for Sustainable Development (DSD) of the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) has begun a project on designing green economies in small island developing States (SIDS). The Division, along with the Ministry of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs, and the Ministry of Environment, Foreign Trade and Export Development of Grenada released a study titled “Road Map on Building a Green Economy for Sustainable Development in Carriacou and Petite Martinique, Grenada."

UN Marks Official Start of Operations at Rio+20 [viewed]

5 June 2012: Sha Zukang, Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs and Secretary-General of the upcoming UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20), spoke at an event on 5 June 2012, in Brasilia, Brazil – the host country of the Conference – to raise the UN's flag and mark the start of its operations at Rio+20.

Event: Partnership Forum at Rio+20 [viewed]

The Partnership Forum, to be held from 20-22 June 2012 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, will consist of sessions showcasing the contributions of partnerships to the implementation of sustainable development. The goal of the Forum is to build on the mandate agreed at the 11th session of the Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD 11) and to "reenergize, revitalize and strengthen" partnerships to make them more effective and accountable vehicles for implementation. Sessions will: showcase best practices; discuss how partnerships can advance the implementation of the agreements reached at the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20); identify successful models and opportunities for replication and scale up; and promote discussions on more effective accountability measures.
