April 2011: The UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) has published a report on cooperation between the EU and Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) countries, which highlights recent support by the EU to clean energy in the Americas.
20 April 2011: The International Energy Agency (IEA) has released a report entitled “Technology Roadmap: Biofuels for Transport,” which describes the necessary steps to realize ambitious global biofuels targets.
7 March 2011: The Andean Community (CAN) has launched two new projects funded by Finland, namely the Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) Programme in the Andean Region, and the Energy and Environment Partnership in the Andean Region.
4 April 2011: The Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (CCCCC) has published its fourth Climate Change News Update. The March-April 2011 issue of News Update compiles major international and regional climate change news, including climate change-related events, studies, reports and resource materials.
29 March 2011: The UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) organized a policy dialogue on "Institutional Development and Innovation in Biofuels in Latin America and the Caribbean," where three papers were presented on the future of biofuels in the region.
This annual event is co-sponsored by the Inter-American Development Bank (IBD), Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and Organization of America States (OAS), among others. Participants will look at policy and regulatory issues and the forces driving finance and investment in renewable energy sources in the Caribbean context, and the scope for a regional approach.
11 March 2011: The Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (CCCCC) has launched a new weekly newsletter publication titled "CCCCC News Update," which contains a review of climate change news and events relevant to the Caribbean region.
17 February 2011: The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the UN has released a new report titled "Making Integrated Food-Energy Systems (IFES) Work for People and Climate: An Overview."
15 February 2011: Addressing students and faculty at the University of San Marcos in Lima, Peru, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon listed the "sweeping changes in the global landscape," highlighting "disasters striking with greater force" and "the impacts of climate change growing ever clearer."
Jointly organized by IEA Bioenergy and the Brazilian Bioethanol Science and Technology Laboratory (CBTE), this workshop aims discuss land use change impacts of bioenergy production, and provide strategies to mitigate them. Specifically, it will look at methods for quantifying direct and indirect land use change, recognizing further land use impacts of bioenergy such as in greenhouse gas accounting and renewables programs, and finally how to minimize the lands use impacts of bioenergy. Expressions of interest in participation should be sent by 15 March 2011. The deadline for submission of paper abstracts is 30 May 2011.
