11 June 2013: Supported by the World Bank, the Caribbean island State of Saint Lucia has carried out successful efforts to reduce the consequences of disasters through the promotion of low-cost community-based interventions for vulnerable hillside communities.
27 May 2013: The UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) highlighted its City Resilience Profiling Programme (CRPP) during a side event titled 'Building Safer and Resilient Cities and Settlements,' held at the Global Platform on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) in Geneva, Switzerland. CRPP aims to develop a comprehensive, integrated urban management and planning approach to monitor city risk resilience, including to climate change and multi-hazard catastrophic events.
3 June 2013: The 3rd Latin American and Caribbean Sanitation Conference, LatinoSan 2013, concluded with the signature of the Panama Declaration, in which delegates from the region agree to establish a Regional Meeting of Ministries of Sanitation, a Secretariat in charge of following-up on agreements from these meetings, and a Latin American and Caribbean Observatory on Sanitation.
6 May 2013: The Adaptation Fund has released the meeting report from the 20th meeting of the Adaptation Fund Board (AFB), during which it approved a new project in Argentina, and placed projects in Belize, Ghana and Uzbekistan in the pipeline.
26 April 2013: At its meeting in Rome, Italy, the governing Council of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) approved strategies related to strengthening FAO partnerships with civil society organizations and with the private sector.
22 April 2013: The Global Water Partnership (GWP) held the First Dialogue on National Development and Water Security in the context of Climate Change Adaptation to consider the linkages among water management, climate change adaptation and sustainable economic growth in Peru.
April 2013: The International Policy Centre for Inclusive Growth (IPC-IG) has released publications addressing issues central to the green economy and the development of post-2015 development goals, gender equity, land rights and agriculture in Southern Africa, Madagascar, Guatemala, Brazil, and Caribbean small island developing States (SIDS).
27 March 2013: The UN University Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS) hosted a lecture by Walter Kälin, Envoy of the Chairmanship of the Nansen Initiative, on human displacement across borders as a result of natural disasters. Kälin introduced the Nansen Initiative, which aims to build consensus among governments on how to address cross border displacement following slow-onset and sudden disasters.
22 March 2013: The Global Water Partnership (GWP) has released a report titled “Water: Catalyst for Cooperation” presenting water cooperation case studies from Asia, Europe, Africa and Latin America, in the context of the GWP network and the implementation of integrated water resources management (IWRM).
March 2013: The Global Water Partnership (GWP) March edition of "News Flow" highlights the launch by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and GWP of a joint Integrated Drought Management Programme (IDMP) to improve monitoring and prevention of droughts.
