Event: GCF Board Meeting [viewed]

The Board of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) is expected to meet in Berlin, Germany, from 13-15 March 2013. According to the Work Plan of the Board (GCF/B.02-12/03), the meeting is expected to address, among other issues: the Board's additional rules of procedure; the selection of the Executive Director; and the structure and organization of the Fund, including the model for the delivery and allocation of resources, access, governance and information disclosure policy.

Panama Consultation Discusses Violence, Security in Post-2015 Agenda [viewed]

The World We Want 20151 February 2013: Over 100 UN officials, civil society representatives and stakeholders convened in Panama City, Panama, to discuss how to reflect citizen security and violence in the post-2015 agenda. The meeting focused on the relationships between citizen insecurity, violence and sustainable development, as part of the post-2015 Global Consultation on Conflict, Violence and Disaster.

Event: Ad Hoc Technical EGM on Socio-Economic Considerations of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety [viewed]

The Expert Group Meeting (EGM) organized by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) will examine: existing institutional frameworks, legislation and policies with provisions on socioeconomic considerations; capacity-building activities related to biosafety and socioeconomic considerations; existing expertise and experience; and other policy initiatives concerning social and economic impact assessments.

Event: Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety COP-MOP 7 [viewed]

The seventh meeting of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) Conference of the Parties serving as Meeting of the Parties (MOP) to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety is scheduled for 29 September-3 October 2014. Among other issues, the meeting is expected to address: handling, transport, packaging and identification (HTPI) of living modified organisms (LMOs); risk assessment and risk management; and socio-economic considerations.

CSOs Issue Post-2015 Recommendations from Monrovia [viewed]

1 February 2013: Representatives from global, regional and national civil society organizations (CSOs) released a Civil Society Communiqué on “National Building Blocks for Sustained Prosperity: Economic Transformation,” the theme of the third meeting of the UN High-level Panel (HLP) on the Post-2015 Development Agenda. The Africa-wide post-2015 working group and the Liberia CSO post-2015 working group organized the consultations.

Event: Forum on Tourism, Sustainability and Climate Change in Central America [viewed]

Jointly organized by the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and the National Chamber of Tourism of Honduras, with support from the Central American Commission on Environment and Development (CCAD), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the Adaptation Fund, the US Agency for International Development (USAID), Honduras' Environment and Natural Resources Secretariat (SERNA) and several national and regional tourism bodies, this Forum aims to focus on the impact of climate change on Central America's tourism sector, strengthen the sector's ability to address climate change threats and challenges, examine adaptation opportunities and techniques, and discuss steps to implement the 2007 Davos Declaration on Climate Change and Tourism Responding to Global Challenges. The Forum will feature roundtables on: sustainable tourism opportunities; climate impacts and adaptation in coastal tourist destinations; climate impacts and adaptation in cultural and natural tourism destinations; climate change and mitigation measures in the tourism sector; and policies for climate change and tourism. The Global Environment Facility (GEF) provides secretariat services to the Adaptation Fund Board (AFB) and the World Bank serves as trustee of the Adaptation Fund, both on an interim basis.
