Event: International Water Summit 2013 [viewed]

The inaugural International Water Summit will be hosted by Masdar and held alongside the 2013 World Future Energy Summit (WFES) and the Abu Dhabi International Renewable Energy Conference (ADIREC). The aim of the International Water Summit is to provide an opportunity for participants to network with global politicians, experts from the international water community and leaders from the public and private sectors, and collaborate in the development of solutions for some of the world's most water-scarce regions. The Summit is part of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW).

UN Missions Discuss UN's Environmental Sustainability Management [viewed]

2 February 2012: The UN Greening the Blue Campaign has announced that the UN has held its first meeting with diplomatic missions to the UN on the UN's environmental sustainability management. The meeting was designed to share lessons and best practices on sustainability initiatives, and included presentations by the Green Diplomacy programmes of Chile and the UK.

UK, Caribbean Countries Agree on Sustainable Growth Action Plan [viewed]

CARICOM23 January 2012: The seventh UK-Caribbean Ministerial Forum, which was organized under the theme "Sustainable Growth Toward Prosperity," concluded with the adoption of a 31-point action plan. The UK agreed to give the region 75 million pounds over four years for its implementation, with 4.9 million pounds earmarked for climate change work.

30 January 2012: The UN Secretary-General's High-level Panel on Global Sustainability (GSP) has released its final report, titled “Resilient People, Resilient Planet: A Future Worth Choosing.” The report's 56 recommendations seek to mainstream sustainable development into economic policy, by integrating social and environmental costs into pricing and measuring of economic activities.

WTO Opens Session on Renewable Energy Generation Dispute [viewed]

18 January 2012: At the request of the parties in the dispute between Canada and Japan on Certain Measures Affecting the Renewable Energy Generation Sector (DS412), the World Trade Organization (WTO) dispute settlement panel has agreed to start its first substantive meeting with the parties and third parties with a session open to public viewing at WTO Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.

Latin America Steps Up Cooperation on Developing Jatropha as a Sustainable Biofuel [viewed]

17 January 2012: Six working groups of the Latin American and Caribbean Jatropha Curcas Network, supported by the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation in Agriculture (IICA) and the Cooperative Program for Agricultural Research, Development and Innovation in the South American Tropics (PROCITROPICOS), will work during 2012 to promote LAC cooperation in identify ways to promote the socially and environmentally sustainable cultivation and harvesting of the oilseed plant jatropha curcus as a source of biodiesel and biokerosene.
