CGIAR Launches Program on Roots, Tubers and Bananas [viewed]
March 2012: Seeking to tap potential synergies for increasing food security and incomes, the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) has developed a Global Program on Roots, Tubers and Bananas, to be led by the International Potato Center (CIP) in collaboration with Bioversity International, the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) and the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA).
29 March 2012: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has announced that it is organizing a series of regional capacity building workshops for Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), Africa, and the Asia and Pacific regions, aiming to improve the numbers of indigenous and local community (ILC) representatives, with an emphasis on women, effectively involved in the CBD processes, as well as to build their capacity to do so.
27 March 2012: A UN inter-agency assessment of sustainable development efforts in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) over the past 20 years has identified advances, gaps and setbacks. The assessment also proposes guidelines for moving the region toward sustainable development. 
20 March 2012: The UN Development Programme (UNDP) has released its first Caribbean Human Development Report, titled “Human Development and the Shift to Better Citizen Security,” which covers Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, Saint Lucia, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago.
20 March 2012: The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) has presented a collection of global statistical data on the state of the agricultural resource base, hunger dimensions, feeding the world, and sustainability.
8 March 2012: The UN system celebrated International Women's Day on 8 March 2012, under the theme "Empower Rural Women – End Hunger and Poverty." 
8 March 2012: The UN hosted a press conference to take stock of global progress in achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), including the recent milestones on poverty and water, and to chart the way forward, focusing on the remaining challenges and actions to be taken to accelerate progress in the run-up to 2015.
