Event: LatinoSan 2013 [viewed]
The third LatinoSan is organized by the Panamanian Government with support from the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the World Bank, the Swiss Cooperation and the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID). It will examine the current state and future prospects for sanitation in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), focusing on emerging challenges and opportunities, and consider the creation of a mechanism to follow-up the commitments made at LatinoSan 2007 and 2010 conferences. On this last point, conference organizers hope to win endorsement in a Declaration of Panama for the idea of creating a Pro-tempore Regional Secretariat for Sanitation.
19 April 2013: The Water and Sanitation Program (WSP) of the World Bank has launched a handwashing with soap toolkit to assist development practitioners in improving public health by promoting behavioral change. 
5 April 2013: The World Bank has reported on the Ceará Integrated Water Resources Management Project (PROGERIRH), which assures water supply in the city of Fortaleza, located in Ceará state, a semi-arid region of Brazil.
22 March 2013: This year's edition of World Water Day, celebrated on 22 March, was organized around the theme of water cooperation and within the framework of the International Year of Water Cooperation. The Day's celebrations were coordinated by UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), in collaboration with the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), for UN-Water.
11 March 2013: The Caribbean Forum on "Shaping a sustainable development agenda to address the Caribbean reality in the 21st century" took place in Bogota, Colombia, on 5-6 March 2013, and concluded with participants adopting conclusions on priority areas as well as guidelines on how to continue working toward development in the Caribbean. 
27 February 2013: The UN Population Fund (UNFPA) held a briefing for UN Member States on follow-up to the implementation of the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD), on 27 February 2013, at UN Headquarters in New York, US.
January 2013: Four reports published by the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) address climate risk management (CRM) in the Dominican Republic, Honduras, Nicaragua and Peru. The reports were written as part of the UN Development Programme's (UNDP) CRM Technical Assistance Support Project (TASP).
