This workshop is funded by the Spanish Government and is organized by the Water Alliance (Alianza por el Agua), a coalition of public agencies, water service providers, research centers and universities, and civil society organizations in Spain and the Central American countries, as well as regional actors such as UN-HABITAT and the Central American Commission on Environment and Development (CCAD). The workshop seeks to plan and construct gender indicators for water and sanitation projects in Central America that truly promote gender equity.

9 February 2012: The UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) held a preparatory meeting for the 2012 UN Development Cooperation Forum (DCF), in order to examine key development cooperation trends that have emerged in recent years, their impacts on the future of development cooperation, and related institutional arrangements. A key topic was "gearing development cooperation toward sustainable development." The 2012 DCF will take place from 5‐6 July 2012, at UN Headquarters in New York, US.

9 February 2012: The Global Environment Facility's Caribbean Regional Fund for Wastewater Management (GEF-CReW) was formally launched at an inception seminar and initial meeting of its Project Steering Committee (PSC). The PSC endorsed the project's work plan and budget, monitoring and reporting requirements, and made several recommendations. The meetings were held back-to-back from 7-9 February 2012, in Kingston, Jamaica.

3 February 2012: The environment ministers of the eight Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO) countries met informally during the 18th session of the Forum of Environment Ministers (FME 18) of Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) to discuss common stances on the Forum and the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20), as well as to prepare for the upcoming Meeting of ACTO Environment Ministers on Rio+20 and the Amazon Cooperation Strategic Agenda (AECA).

9 February 2012: The Save our Species (SOS) fund, initiated by International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the World Bank and the Global Environment Facility (GEF), has finalized the selection of 23 species conservation projects, to be conducted by 19 different organizations, to which it will allocate US$3.3 million. Of the species to be addressed, four are located in Latin America, nine in Africa, and 14 in Asia.
