UN Launches Flash Appeals to Address Flooding in Central America [viewed]

28 October 2011: The UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UN/ISDR) has announced that the UN has launched two flash appeals to provide emergency assistance to the Central American countries of Nicaragua and El Salvador. Both countries are facing the highest rainfall in 50 years, due to Tropical Depression 12-E.

IDB Provides Micro-finance Loans for Solar Power in Central America [viewed]

IDB27 October 2011: The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) will provide a loan of up to US$3 million to establish credit lines to buy solar power systems for Central American families in isolated rural communities with no access to the electricity grid.

The Climate Investment Funds (CIF) Pilot Program on Climate Resilience (PPCR) will hold a meeting to review progress and tasks ahead in implementing PPCR. The pilot programs and projects implemented under the PPCR are country-led, build on National Adaptation Programs of Action (NAPA) and other relevant country studies and strategies, and include countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean and the South Pacific.
