This side event to the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20) will showcase the integration of pro-poor and sound environmental management into national development plans and policies. High-level representatives from Bhutan, Rwanda and Uruguay will share their experiences on combining inclusive development with sustainable management of natural wealth. Participants will get to learn how these countries have been able to combine more inclusive development with sustainable management of natural wealth, through support from the joint UN Development Programme (UNDP) and UN Environment programme (UNEP) Poverty-Environment Initiative (PEI).

This side event will be held during the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20) and is being organized by the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), in cooperation with the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the World Bank, the German Development Institute, and the Brazilian Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade. It will focus on industrial policy for greening growth, and aims to identify policies that would help industry make the transition to a more environmentally friendly path, including by improving industrial energy efficiency. The event will also include a presentation of UNIDO's 2011 Industrial Development Report, titled “Industrial Energy Efficiency for Sustainable Wealth Creation.”
