August 2012: The Andean Community's (CAN) biodiversity program, BioCAN, has convened delegates from Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru to define national plans to strengthen capacities in monitoring land cover, deforestation and environmental degradation, and agreed to promote the development of methodological processes and reports on deforestation for the Andean subregion.

CLIMATE 2012 / KLIMA 2012 is being organized by the Research and Transfer Centre of the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences, Germany, and will consider the themes "Climate Change, Island States and Sustainable Technologies". The conference will introduce the latest scientific findings and technological developments related to climate change, and examine their links with renewable energy in small island nations. The patron of the 2012 worldwide online climate conference is Mohamed Ibn Chambas, Secretary General of the African Caribbean Pacific (ACP) Group of States Secretariat. Partners include UNEP, WMO, OSS, UNESCO, SIDSnet, AOSIS, and IDRC. CLIMATE 2012 / KLIMA 2012 is also organized as part of the project "Small Developing Island Renewable Energy Knowledge and Technology Transfer Network" (DIREKT), funded by the ACP Science and Technology Programme, an EU programme for cooperation between the European Union and the ACP region (Africa, Caribbean, Pacific). DIREKT is a cooperation scheme involving universities from Germany, Fiji, Mauritius, Barbados and Trinidad & Tobago with the aim of strengthening the science and technology capacity in the field of renewable energy of a sample of ACP small island developing states, by means of technology transfer, information exchange and networking.

The UN Development Programme (UNDP), the World Bank and partners will organize a workshop on aid effectiveness in the area of public expenditure related to climate change, bringing 100 government officials and development partners from the Asia Pacific, Africa and Latin America regions to Bangkok. Particpants at the three-day workshop, titled "Climate Public Expenditure and Institutional Reviews: Workshop on Past Experience and the Way Forward" and convening from 10-12 September 2012, will work on recommendations for peer support and collaboration and produce guidelines for a new "Climate Change Public Expenditure Review Sourcebook".
