6 August 2012: The UN Development Group (UNDG) has released guidelines for national-level, multi-stakeholder consultations to help define the post-2015 development agenda. The consultations are to be held in at least 50 countries.

Event: International Year of Water Cooperation [viewed]

The UN International Year of Water Cooperation will be observed in 2013. The campaign will work to advance comprehension of the challenges and benefits of water cooperation, and promote it worldwide. UN-Water has called upon the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to lead the International Year. The 2013 World Water Day, marked on 22 March, also will be dedicated to water cooperation.

Naoko Ishii Takes Office as GEF CEO and Chairperson [viewed]

1 August 2012: The Global Environment Facility (GEF) welcomed Naoko Ishii as its new CEO and Chairperson, announcing that she had taken office on 1 August 2012. The GEF Council unanimously selected Ishii to succeed Monique Barbut, who completed her second term as CEO in July 2012.

UN Secretary-General Announces High-Level Panel on Post-2015 Agenda [viewed]

31 July 2012: UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has announced the members of the High-level Panel of Eminent Persons to advise on planning the post-2015 agenda. The 26-member panel includes representatives from government, civil society and the private sector, and will hold its first meeting in September 2012, in the margins of the 67th UN General Assembly (UNGA) high-level debate, which opens on 25 September.

ECOSOC Substantive Session Adopts Resolutions on Development Matters [viewed]

27 July 2012: The 2012 Substantive Session of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), which met from 2-27 July 2012, in New York, US, has concluded with the adoption of resolutions and decisions on support to Least Developed Countries (LDCs), coordination of emergency humanitarian assistance and poverty eradication, inter alia. It also addressed preparations for the UN General Assembly (UNGA) quadrennial comprehensive policy review (QCPR) of the UN system operational activities for development.

CANARI Releases Inaugural Newsletter on CEPF [viewed]

July 2012: The Caribbean Natural Resources Institute (CANARI) has released the first issue of its quarterly newsletter for the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) in the Caribbean islands, titled “Capacité.” The newsletter provides information on CANARI's work in the region, and shares lessons learned and best practices from CEPF-supported projects and related initiatives.

CEC Ministerial Meeting Updates Submission on Enforcement Matters Process [viewed]

11 July 2012: The Council of the North American Commission on Environmental Cooperation (CEC) has adopted new guidelines for submissions regarding the CEC's public Submission on Enforcement Matters (SEM) process, and instructed the CEC Secretariat to undertake new initiatives, including on short-lived climate forcers (SLCFs), e-waste and clean energy.
