18 March 2012: The Second Global Transition 2012 Dialogue on the New Economy focused on a number of issues related to the green economy during a weekend event on the sidelines of negotiations for the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20).
22 March 2012: The Andean Community (CAN) Secretariat signed an agreement with the Research Institute of the Peruvian Amazon (IIAP) to strengthen the management of environmental information in the Peruvian Amazon.
21 March 2012: The second meeting of the Environment Ministers of the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO) adopted a "Lima Declaration" agreeing on joint actions on environmental policy, including annual Environmental Ministerials and closer coordination in implementing multilateral environment agreements (MEAs). They also recommended that ACTO form a special working group to draft a common strategy to combat illegal mining in the Amazon Basin.
This electronic consultation is being organized by the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), a specialized agency of the Organization of American States (OAS), on behalf of the European Union-supported project “Towards a Latin America and Caribbean Bio-Economy in Partnership with Europe” (ALCUE-KBBE). The consultation will bring together researchers, professionals, policy makers and business people from fields such as biotechnology, biofuels, biodiversity, ecosystem services and sustainable agriculture to discuss the scope and implications of the bioeconomy concept for Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) countries and to contribute to formulating policy recommendations to foster bioeconomy development in LAC.
30 March 2012: The Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), a specialized agency of the Organization of American States (OAS), has signed a letter of understanding with the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to consolidate their joint efforts in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC).
29 March 2012: The Caribbean Forum of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (CARIFORUM) and the European Commission (EC) signed three financial agreements totaling €82.6 million (about US$110 million) to promote Caribbean integration and aid in the realization of CARIFORUM's implementation commitments under the CARIFORUM-EC Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA).
28 March 2012: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has announced the release of the synthesis report of a study on the green economy in Barbados, which highlights elements for developing a roadmap to further Barbados' pursuit of building a Green Economy.
21 March 2012: The US State Department has awarded a grant to continue a program for experts to act as consultants and speakers on energy and climate change policy issues in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) on behalf of the Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas (ECPA).
28 March 2012: The UN Development Programme (UNDP) and the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) have signed a Programme of Cooperation to formalize their long-standing strategic partnership to address poverty among the poorest populations.
28 March 2012: The Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) has launched a new research programme aimed at achieving sustainable improvements in agricultural production while maintaining or boosting the health of natural ecosystems, in the face of growing demand for natural resources.
