October 2011: Approximately one hundred participants, scientists and policymakers from Africa, Brazil, Argentina and France, as well as representatives from international organizations, met in Niamey, Niger, from 24-25 October 2011, at the “Fight Against Desertification in Africa” conference, also known as ICID+19 Africa.
October 2011: The September-October 2011 issue of the Global Island Partnership's (GLISPA) Progress Update highlights outcomes of the Caribbean Challenge Planning Meeting, a briefing on Debt Swaps for Adaptation, the Hawai'i Green Growth Initiative and Micronesia Challenge. It also notes GLISPA's efforts at upcoming international conferences to raise attention for island initiatives.
27 October 2011: UN Women has opened a Regional Center for Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) in Panama City, Panama. The LAC Center is the first of six planned regional centers.
12 October 2011: The Green Growth Investment Forum, organized by the Mission of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) in Brussels, Belgium, from 6-7 October 2011, resulted in agreement on further steps to promote green investment in the Eastern Caribbean Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
12 October 2011: The Latin American Development Bank (CAF) and a French municipal consortium agreed to cooperate in helping cities in CAF member countries manage their solid wastes.
30 September 2011: The Seventh Council Meeting of the Inter-American Biodiversity Information Network (IABIN) met to review IABIN's accomplishments to date, and develop a vision statement and work plan for the next phase of the project.
7 October 2011: The Fifth EU-Chile Association Council meeting was held in Brussels, Belgium, on 7 October 2011. The resulting Joint Communiqué addresses the upcoming UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20), climate change and biodiversity, among other issues.
5 October 2011: The Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) Science Symposium 2011 focused on the experience gained during GBIF's first decade in building a global infrastructure for, and networks of, biodiversity informatics.

The Oslo Energy for All 2011 high-level conference is co-organized by Norway and the International Energy Agency (IEA), and aims to explore possible ways of financing access to energy for the 1.4 billion people without access to electricity and 2.5 billion people who still use traditional biomass for cooking. Five countries from the South - Brazil, Ethiopia, India, Liberia and South Africa – have been invited to be organizing partners. High-level participants will include Norwegian Crown Prince Haakon Magnus, Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, and UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Director-General Kandeh Yumkella. Registration is by invitation only.
