10 March 2011: The Caribbean Conference on Climate Change and Ethical Principles, which was held from 8-9 March 2011, in Saint Kitts and Nevis, concluded with policy makers and other delegates vowing to intensify efforts to raise their populations' awareness of climate change and promote behavioral change on related issues.
15 March 2011: The International Energy Agency (IEA) has released the latest in its series of policy reviews, titled “Energy Policies of IEA Countries – Norway 2011 Review.” The report breaks down its investigation into sections on general energy policies, sectoral policies and energy technologies.
13 March 2011: The African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Multilateral Environment Agreements (MEAs) Project has launched a dedicated project website that features links to regional hubs, updates on project activities, information on upcoming events and related publications.
14 March 2011: The Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP) has begun its eighth funding cycle by announcing a call for proposals for clean energy projects targeting Brazil, China, India, Indonesia and South Africa.
10 March 2011: The World Bank approved a US$15 million loan to support an energy efficiency and security project in Jamaica. The project is expected to result in detailed policies and plans on renewable energy, to reduce the country's high dependence on imported petroleum products and move to cleaner fuels.
11 February 2011: The Forest Carbon Partnership Facility (FCPF), with the help of the Amazonas Sustainable Foundation (FAS), the Office National des Forêts International (ONFI) and a grant from the Global Environment Facility (GEF), organized a 10-day South-South exchange on community forestry and REDD+ (reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries, including conservation, sustainable management of forests, and enhancement of carbon stocks).
23 February 2011: The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) is supporting Chile in the design and implementation of a partial credit guarantee program to expand financing for energy efficiency programs and foster the participation of engineering firms and energy service companies (ESCOs) in the development of an energy service market in the country.
This third regional workshop in the Workshop Series of the GEO Coastal Zone Community of Practice (CZCP) will focus on the Caribbean and will be organized in partnership with the Caribbean Regional Association (CaRA) for the Caribbean Integrated Coastal Ocean Observing System (CarICOOS), the Global Ocean Observing System (GOOS), the Global Terrestrial Observing System (GTOS), the UN Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC). Specific objectives of the regional workshop will include: using Earth observations to improve sustainability of tourism; managing coastal tourism assets; planning for and adapting to coastal change; sustaining tourism under a changing climate; assessing and preparing for climate change and its impact on coastal zones; and tourism and ecosystems.
February 2011: The Growing Forest Partnership (GFP) has released the February issue of its newsletter. GFP is an initiative funded by the World Bank that supports local, national and international networks to ensure that global discussions about forests include the real and current challenges faced by forest-dependent people and local forest managers.
