Consultation on Gender Equality in LAC: Progress and Challenges

The consultation on gender equality in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) aims to initiate an exchange of views on how the post-2015 development agenda “must include gender equality as a priority,” and to respond to the issues of discrimination and violence against women, in particular. This portion of the consultation will focus on progress and challenges for achieving gender equality in the region. It precedes other discussion blocks within the consultation, on: the structural roots of inequality, discrimination and violence; capacities to make choices; participation, impact and power; and priorities and strategies to influence the agenda.

UNFF 10

The tenth session of the United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF 10) will assess the overall progress made on the implementation of the Non-Legally Binding Instrument on All Types of Forests and achievement of its four Global Objectives on Forests. The theme for UNFF 10 is forests and economic development. Agenda items will include: forest products and services; national forest programmes and other sectoral policies and strategies; reducing risks and impacts of disasters; and benefits of forests and trees to urban communities.

Consultation on Gender Equality in LAC: Discussion on Structural Roots of Inequality, Capacities and Participation

To respond to the issue of gender inequality, including discrimination of women and violence against women, The World We Want 2015 Website features a consultation process on gender equality in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). The consultation aims to initiate an exchange of views on how the post-2015 development agenda “must include gender equality as a priority”. The consultation is divided into different discussion blocks. The second discussion comprises three sections that will be addressed simultaneously: structural roots of inequality, discrimination and violence; capacities to make choices; and participation, impact and power. It will follow a first discussion on progress and challenges for achieving gender equality in the region, and will precede another discussion on priorities and strategies to influence the agenda.

UNCCD CRIC 11

The eleventh session of the Committee for the Review of the Implementation of the Convention (CRIC 11) is scheduled to convene from 15-19 April 2013. Regional meetings preparatory to CRIC 11 are expected to convene prior to the event. The third Special Session of the Committee of Science and Technology (CST S-3) and the 2nd UNCCD Scientific Conference will convene immediately before CRIC 11, also in Bonn, Germany.
