The seventh session of the World Urban Forum (WUF) will be held in Medellin, Colombia, on the theme ‘Urban equity in development – Cities for life'. WUF 7 will include high-level dialogues on equity in urban development law; urban planning and design for social cohesion; basic services--local businesses for equitable cities; innovative financing instruments for local authorities; raising standards or urban resilience; and a safe city as a just and equitable city. It will also feature special sessions, round tables and business, gender and youth assemblies. WUF is an international forum exchanging views and experiences on urban challenges and opportunities. Participants include governments, international organisations, NGOs and other stakeholders. The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) convenes the WUF every two years.

The ICAO International Aviation and Environmental Seminar for the South American region will provide participants with information on: present and future impact and trend assessments of aircraft engine noise; the work of the ICAO Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection (CAEP); and ICAO policies and guidance material in the environmental field.

This forum, convened by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) in collaboration with the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) and the National Forest Financing Fund of Costa Rica, will highlight the benefits from payments for ecosystem services (PES) as well as build capacity for the development and implementation of PES in tropical countries, with a view to supporting sustainable forest management (SFM).

The theme of the 47th session will be "Assessment of the status of implementation of the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development". There will be a general debate on national experiences, discussion on the annual ministerial review to take place in 2014, and the future programme of work. NGO written statements may be submitted by 10 January 2014. Requests for oral statements by NGOs may be submitted by 21 March 2014. Established in 1946 and renamed in 1994, the Commission assists the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) to monitor, review and assess the implementation of the Programme of Action at the national, regional and international levels.
