Adaptation Fund Board Publishes Report of 16th Meeting 3_February 2012: The Adaptation Fund Board (AFB) has released the approved report of its 16th meeting, which was held from 13-14 December 2011, alongside the seventh meeting of the Project and Programme Review Committee (PPRC), the Ethics and Finance Committee (EFC) and a civil society dialogue. At the meeting, the AFB approved project proposals in Uruguay, Cook Islands, Georgia, Madagascar, Samoa and Tanzania. continued... UN Missions Discuss UN’s Environmental Sustainability Management 2_February 2012: The UN Greening the Blue Campaign has announced that the UN has held its first meeting with diplomatic missions to the UN on the UN’s environmental sustainability management. The meeting was designed to share lessons and best practices on sustainability initiatives, and included presentations by the Green Diplomacy programmes of Chile and the UK. continued... UN Greening the Blue Announces CO2 Balloon Launch 31_January 2011: The UN Greening the Blue Campaign has announced that a 10-meter-high balloon has been launched outside of UN Headquarters in New York, US, in an effort to draw attention to the quantities of carbon dioxide produced per person, per year. continued... Forest Assessment Data Now Available Online 1_February 2012: Data from the 2010 Global Forest Resources Assessment (FRA), published by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), are now available online. The FRA is a means to monitor the world's forests at five-to-ten-year intervals, and has been conducted since 1946. continued... World Bank Finances Rio's Urban Transport System Upgrade 26_January 2012: The World Bank approved a US$600 million loan to upgrade Rio de Janeiro's urban rail system, a project which is expected to lead to the reduction of 93.700 tons of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions while benefiting low-income commuters. continued... Latin America & Caribbean Regional Coverage is a knowledge management project focusing on delivering news, information, and analysis on international environment and sustainable development negotiations and policy making in Latin America & the Caribbean. The International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) Reporting Services, in partnership with the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), launched the Latin America & Caribbean Regional Coverage (LARC) Programme in 2010 to improve the transparency of the region's policy discussions on sustainable development and raise its profile.
